Audio CD Description

After years of spiritual study and reflection, inspirational speaker and bestselling author Wayne Dyer has emerged a highly esteemed teacher. His current message about tapping into the power of intention may sound like good old positive thinking: just stay focused on what you want, rather than focusing on the lack of having what you want. But the teaching here goes deeper than just controlling thoughts (although he does acknowledge that thought control is a surprisingly challenging and significant endeavor). This book might help readers land a better job, but it's more relevant for those who are ready to detach from an ego-driven life filled with quick fixes of happiness and step into a more authentic, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling life. His core teachings speak to tapping into a universal source of energy that can also be called the "power of intention." He calls people who are consciously co-creating with this energy source "connectors" and describes them as "individuals who have made themselves available for success...They don't say With my luck things won't work out. Instead, you’re more likely to hear something like, I intend to create this and I know it will work out." Connectors are also committed to Dyer's "seven faces of intention"--creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity, which he speaks to throughout the book. Each chapter concludes with five suggestions for becoming stronger connectors, such as how to monitor one's inner speech or shift out of low-energy beliefs. Some criticize Dyer for not giving credit to other teachers who offer this same message, especially Jerry and Esther Hicks (A New Beginning I) and even Ralph Waldo Emerson. It's impossible to know whether this was a deliberate omission, but it is obvious that Dyer has tapped into a growing conversation about co-creating with "source." Other leading-edge voices in this conversation include Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now), Shakti Gawain (Creative Visualization ) and Lynn Grabhorn (Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting). --Gail Hudson

Disappointing

In recent years, Dyer has increasing headed in the direction of pseudo science and this book is no exception. Dyer's more recent attempts to combine 'spirituality' with psychology do not work and could even be dangerous to vulnerable individuals.

Dyer is an optimistic promoter of self-actualization for everyone and for this he can only be commended. He would probably make a greater contribution, however, if he stayed with psychology and forgot about the 'spirituality' business that detracts from his work.

Helpful

Recently I found myself asking questions as to what I really want. I recently broke off a long term relationship with someone very dear to me and this has forced me to reassess certain goals and figure out what it all meant for the future. It seems like this major life change has coincided with listening to alot of self development and spiritual audio books. The Power of Intention is something I reccomend for how direct the message is.

I want to make clear I have some caveats however. I don't think Dyer is that original. I think he takes from alot of great minds in compiling his philosophy and most of his ideas. Nevertheless his presentation did genuinely affect me; helping me sort through concepts I already had realized but hadn't clarified. What are the messages I most responded to? Well, letting yourself live life without getting bogged down by outter deterrents. The biggest revelation I'm taking form Power Of Intention is the need to live life inward-out, rather than Outward-In. I've known many people that strive for things based on what people think of them, what they have, and whether or not their job pays enough. The basis for action here is on outside stimuli and approval with no thought given to the inner drive that informs all healthy action. Dyer's message was just what I needed at a time when my ego took a big hit. I could have easily wasted further time feeling undue pain. Now my mindset is a million times lighter, and for that I'm thankful. You may be put off by how much Dyer quotes and his vocabulary with regard to certain concepts is sometimes unintentionally funny, but in the end there's enough truth here to overcome details like that. I especially reccomend it for people that are going through an especially stressful time. I assure you, this book willl show you how every experience (good and bad) is an opportunity to realize growth and happiness in your life.

This Book Could Change Your Life!!!

This book is truly amazing, in that it provides the reader with a way to change their life - showing how we can co-create with God the type of life we really want to live. It shows how we all tend to "accidentally" create those things in our lives that we actually want to avoid - by constantly dwelling on the negative in our life, we are actually attracting more negative events to us. This book is about changing the way we think - and by changing our thoughts, we begin to change our lives along the way.

Dr. Dyer does a great job of outlining the steps necessary to change the thought processes that are currently hindering our ability to live the life we want.

Although I would categorize this book as "spiritual" in nature, I believe that it can be of help to EVERYONE - whether you are interested in sprituality &/or religion or not.

This is one of those books that can truly help anyone to change their life - as long as one is willing to put in the effort involved in changing their thought processes. It shows how our INTENTIONS impact every facet of our lives - and that, by changing our INTENTIONS, we can literally transform our life!
