An information-packed guide to all the emotional, financial and physical changes the father-to-be may experience during the course of his partner's pregnancy. Incorporating the wisdom of top experts in the field, from obstetricians and birth-class instructors to psychologists and sociologists, this book is filled with sound advice and practical tips for men, as well as New Yorker-style cartoons that will keep anxious fathers-to-be chuckling.

Reviews From Our Customers

Book plus other resources = prepared dad!

The Brott book is an excellent resource...and for less than $10, you simply can't go wrong! Buy it early-on in your pregnancy. In addition, I personally really like some of the websites out there for expectant fathers, particularly thefunkystork.com. Buy the Brott book, then head to thefunkystork to discuss the pregnancny with other dads, sign up with the email tracking and you are set! Above all, have fun!

Not for everyone

My wife's first trimester just ended; I just finished this book and found it nearly useless. My experience is clearly very different from others, and I appreciate people's varied reactions to the book. One of the key issues I have is the general lack of practical information relative to the author's account of his personal, emotional journey.

The focus on a man's involvement in a pregnancy represents trivial efforts at best. The ability to become pregnant is characteristic of being female; yet the author attempts to overcome this through a series of extremely awkward rituals.

The section on financial planning is weak and incomplete. The bits about asking your doctor for a look at your wife's cervix and taking the placenta home to burry and plant a tree above it are just strange.

You may learn much from this book, I did not; it seems there are better resources. But in any case, congratulations on the good news.

great book for moms-to-be too!

I bought all the female books.... "what to expect", "the girlfriends guide", and "the mother of all pregnancy books", and my husband bought this book....I was not a big fan of "what to expect" and ended up referring to and reading his book "the expectant father". The tone of voice, information provided, and content flow are great. I would recommend this for women (as well as men). It is also nice because it provides financial planning and life planning information that many of the women-geared books do not offer (hard to believe, I know).
