Best one yet
After a great start the Artemis Fowl books kinda slowed down a bit and got a slightly incoherent. But I'm glad to say that The Opal Deception is a return to form and is the most fast-paced and enjoyable Artemis Fowl book yet. This series has now over-taken Harry Potter in my opinion, as well as the Bartemaeus Trilogy, which keeled over and died with The Golem's Eye.
In this entry Arty and Butler are marked for death by the evil Pixie Opal Koboi, who they helped defeat in The Eternity Code. Holly Short, Foaly and Commander Root are also on her hitlist. And after the surprise death of a main character (not telling) the people of lower elements must rely on Artemis Fowl's cunning skills to stop Opal from destroying the worlds as they know them. I must say I was always a bit uneasy with the one deviant Artemis turning to good but it seems to fit now.
All the cool technology, crazy inventions and pro-environment subtexts are back as well as Colfer's to-the-point storytelling. It's the longest Fowl book yet but still the quickest. I would have finished it ages ago but I lost it in Gran Canaria when I left it by the pool (stupid mistake) and had to buy another one. Definitely one to buy. I cannot wait to see what Colfer does next!
And if you are going to invest time and money in this book then UK hardcover is the best edition as it has a shiny cover and a cool wraparound.
arty has lost it
i found all the other books in this series great reads, i would review them as five star, i found this book lacking in a rational plot, in most places everything is made to convinient, or the places were eoin colfer couldn't make the book convinient he seems to have made it totaly irrasional. It is with a sad heart i give this book only two stars.
Artemis Fowl does it Again
The boy wonder is having a change of heart and is struggling with his honest loving half and criminal minded half. The number one enemy of the fairies Opal Koboi has prepared a clone so that sh can escape without anybody getting a air about it. She seeks revenge from the ones who have betrayed her and let her in prison for one year.
Opal manages to kill Commander Julius Root and decieves the fairies LED to believe that Captian Holly Short has killed Root. Meanwhile, Artemis is getting ready to rob a famour painting not knowing that Opal is out to get her. Since, Artemis does not remember the fairies but knows that something is definitely wrong. Now, Artemis and Holly has to team up again to defeat Opal who has reversed the tables. She is virtually invisible as authorities still believes that holly is behind everything. There is even a bigger trouble as Opal has gone to the limits of destroying the fairy land. Now, its upto Artemis and Holly to save the fairy land but this time, Opal has outsmarted Artemis.
Eoin Colfer has done wonders in the book. Apart for the super technology, a trademark of the Artemims Fowl Series, there is enough action to keep you from blinking.
Garb a book today !!!! Its worth it...
