Good to measure your Strength
Well recently I have given GMAT and scored 730. I found princeton and offcial guide to gmat more helpful Even though it has very good set of questions it is much more tougher than the actual questions asked on the exam.
Kaplan - 650, 680, 640, 620
Powerprep - 790, 740
Princeton Review - 710, 720, 690, 720
Actual GMAT - 730 Percentile: 96%
Math section is not easy, it is good practice for math. If you want to go through this book then finish it off early otherwise later if you give kaplans test your moral might go down becuase of tough questions and i think the scoring is different from the actual GMAT
good to get started
It should be one of the first books that you should buy in order to familiarize with the test.
The difficulty level of the book is greater than that of any other preparation book on the market except the OG(official guide).
The quant questions are very good because the difficulty level of OG and other books does not reflect the difficulty level of the quantitative section in the real gmat.
Moreover, the CD is very helpful but don't expect to get very high scores on the 4 cats because they are really difficult, even more difficult than the real gmat.
For verbal, the best source is OG because all the verbal questions of other test preparation books are cloned versions of the real gmat questions.
Excellent!
To prepare for the gmat, I used this book, the princeton review book with CD, the powerprep tests, and the Official Guide for GMAT review.
The PowerPrep tests come free with registration, and the Kaplan Book + CD is all you really need. If you need the extra practice tests, buy the Princeton Review, but only use it for the 4 CAT tests that come with it, otherwise the book sucks. The Official Guide for GMAT Review and the Powerprep tests contain a very high level of overlap, so be sure to take the PowerPrep before you use the guide, if at all.
My scores:
Princeton Review 1: 700
Princeton Review 2: 750
Princeton Review 3: 730
Kaplan 1: 640
Kaplan 2: 710
Kaplan 3: 800 (This may have been an error)
Kaplan 4: 710
PowerPrep 1: 760
PowerPrep 2: 750
Real Thing: 740
The Kaplan questions are fairly representative of what you'll see on the real thing, but a good bit tougher. It was a bit demoralizing at first, but it helps users of the Kaplan materials find the PowerPrep and actual tests to be MUCH EASIER than what they're used to when they get to it.
The CD also contains a variety of excellent tutorials and drills. Kaplan is giving away a good chunk of the materials you'd get in their $700 online course, definitely a great buy for anyone preparing for the GMAT.
