| Paperback Description Ben Hogan's premise in this 1957 classic is driven home in bold letters: "THE AVERAGE GOLFER IS ENTIRELY CAPABLE OF BUILDING A REPEATING SWING AND BREAKING 80." Religions are founded on less, and Hogan's detailed analyses and illustrated demonstrations of grip, stance, posture, and the two basic components of the swing make up a sacred book. Though its very simplicity seems dated, this is the tome of technique that should serve as the foundation of every golf library. |

The Bible I have all the golf instruction books. This is the best. It took me 4 months one winter to read this thin paperback and I am a fast reader. I found myself spending a month or so on each fundamental. I would reach for broomsticks and fireplace irons to hold as I read. Don't buy it for a quick read. You can read it in an hour at a bookstore. Buy it when you are ready to get lost for months in it.
Excellent book for the beggining golfer. I started learning golf about 1 year ago. We have no PGA Instructors available her on Diego Garcia (US Naval Base). Our amature instructors are linited in their abilities to teach golf. This book has eliminated some of the trial & error part of learning. I may swing a 120+ on our course, but I feel that Ben Hogan's book presents the fundamentals of the golf swing better than several other books I have read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is just learning or planning on learning to play golf. I have read the book for a second time & still see things I need to work on improving. I may read it several more times as a quality check on my swing.
Very good book, but... This is a very good book for the golf enthusiast. And I am glad I have it in my collection. BUT, I really don't think it is one of the "best" teaching books out there. Granted everything in the book is helpful. However, I feel it comes up short compared to many of the other books out there. I recommend buying the book if you LOVE golf and like learning ALL you can about this great game. But if you are looking for GREAT instruction/tips, this is not your best bet. |
