| Paperback Description How can you join the ranks of America's wealthy (defined as people whose net worth is over one million dollars)? It's easy, say doctors Stanley and Danko, who have spent the last 20 years interviewing members of this elite club: you just have to follow seven simple rules. The first rule is, always live well below your means. The last rule is, choose your occupation wisely. You'll have to buy the book to find out the other five. It's only fair. The authors' conclusions are commonsensical. But, as they point out, their prescription often flies in the face of what we think wealthy people should do. There are no pop stars or athletes in this book, but plenty of wall-board manufacturers--particularly ones who take cheap, infrequent vacations! Stanley and Danko mercilessly show how wealth takes sacrifice, discipline, and hard work, qualities that are positively discouraged by our high-consumption society. "You aren't what you drive," admonish the authors. Somewhere, Benjamin Franklin is smiling. |

One of the two best books I have read this year. Many people feel that wealth is a matter of luck. It is not. It is a matter of making the most of what you make. This book teaches you how to become pennywise instead of spendfoolish. The other great book that I read this year was Direct from Dell by Michael Dell. I'm in business for myself and have a management background. This book was very useful and I highly recommend it.
Must reading It seems that most people think that real wealth comes from a lot of education and a high income in a high profile job. This book teaches that it's not what you make, it's how you spend it that counts. I've read and reread this great book several times. It's easy to see why it has stayed at the top of the best sellers for so long. I also recommend two other books. Financial Self Defense and More Wealth without Risk by Charles Givens. While The Millionaire Next Door teaches the philosphy to become wealthy, Givens books teaches the actual strategies--The How to become wealthy. All three books are MUST READING.
One of the most insightful books on money ever written In truth this book is not as much about money as it is about philosophy and approach to life... It teaches that the right relationship and perspective with regards to money is far more important than any other factor in ultimately attaining wealth. From a narrative standpoint the book does really beat you over the head (as my wife said... "I pretty much got the point after chapter one"), but the authors use a number of interesting stories and a tremendous fact base to make their case and make it worth finishing. In addition, there are few books that are worth relooking at again and again. This is one of them. I have often pulled it out and opened to a random page. The short anecdotes are fast reminders for getting myself back on track. |
