Hardcover Description

Houston televangelist Joel Osteen is well qualified to write this book, having used the seven principles he shares to achieve his own "rags-to-riches" story. At the heart of Osteen’s message is that achieving a successful, prosperous life of fulfillment can only occur when we stop worrying about the past or future to make the most of each present moment by using our God-given strengths and talents to achieve our goals. The key to doing so are the seven steps Osteen outlines: Enlarge Your Vision, Develop a Healthy Self-Image, Discover the Power of Your Thoughts and Words, Let go of the Past, Find Strength Through Adversity, Live to Give, and Choose to Be Happy. Mixing biblical teachings with his own personal experiences, Osteen explains each of these seven steps in an encouraging, optimistic manner that makes them accessible to anyone interested in principles of personal growth. Although written with a Christian slant, the seven steps Osteen shares will have value to anyone wanting to know more about practical steps of self-betterment, regardless of their denomination.--Larry Trivieri Jr.

Reviews From Our Customers

Inspirational and motivating.

Joel Olsteen's message to reaching a prosperous life is using God's gifts to achieve our goals. Instead of doing this, we dwell on the past, we worry about what the future holds and in doing so, we neglect the present. Olsteen offers that God wants us to be happy and have a successful life, making the most of every moment. We need to look at each vicissitude optimistically, eagerly anticipating each challenge as opportunity to grow.

This is a cleanly written book; Olsteen avoids redundancies common to such books and does not slip into an exegesis in theology. On a whole, I dislike Pastors' writings: they generally lack biblical foundation and overstate the obvious. Olsteen does neither. He writes from the bible, but in the manner one expects from a good Pastor. He keeps to the facts in the scripture and he is inspirational.

I highly recommend, with one caveat. Read it, then read it again with your bible and challenge every statement as it leads to a much more insightful read.

READ THIS BOOK, CHANGE YOUR LIFE

I first saw Joel Osteen on BET giving his sermon and i paid it no attention. Then i really started to listen to his words and their meaning and i was blown away. So i had to get his book and wow, it really opened my mind and my heart. Read this book was an enlightening experience and if you need a little guidance, if you're a little lost then you should do two things One: You should get this book and Two: you should click "Yes" this review was helpful. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

A Fan

I listen to Joel Osteen's preaching on TV every Sunday. He is a great public speaker, and an even greater writer. He is very upbeat and postive. I still have issues with his promises of "claiming God's favor" and his saying, "God wants you to be happy". I'm not so sure it's always that way. Sometimes, God wants you in the hole for a while to learn something. Yet, still, I believe this man is an inspired, sincere, well spoken genuine man who has wisdom that is worth our ear. He gives us in darkness hope. I would also like to suggest some of my other favorite Christian books. One is titled, "If Jesus Is So Darn Loving, Then Why Is My Life In The Crapper?" and the other is titled, "A Purpose Driven Life". And still another older book, "The Power of Positive Thinking", which is also Christian inspiration.
