a wonderful story
I loved this memoir! I think it was a great thing to write this book - now you know why you are reading all the wonderful books he published. The book itself was great - the writing and the stories about the Sparks family, the journey the two brothers took. It makes you cry and it makes you laugh. I would recommend that book to everyone who knows the work of Nicholas Sparks!
This is a memoir, not a travel book
I think that sentiment has been stated before. I read reviews complaining about the author's travel prose yet, as someone who has traveled extensively, I found it entertaining and informative. The real book is about their family and the incredible hardships they endured. The spirit of their family is intense. I would recommend this book. I enjoyed this book - it brought back memories for me.
My sisters and I have spent our "girl's" vacations together without husbands and children for several years and as we travel together we share our memories of our youth, our parents and ourselves. As I read the stories of Nicholas' and Micah's youth and journey - I remembered my own stories and feelings.
I thought their wives must love them very much to let them leave for such an extended time - 3 weeks - wow - I don't know if I could sacrifice that much! But to me it is a verification of how much the wives must love their husbands to allow them this time - and how much they must KNOW the inner workings of these guys to know they needed this time together to become better husbands and fathers in the long run.
I would never have thought Nicholas Sparks had such overwhelming problems with his family and children by reading his books (I've read and enjoyed them all.)
I will buy copies of this book to share with my sisters. We always enjoy discussing Nicholas Spark's books after we each have finished reading them.
I learned some interesting trivia about the places they visited. If you cry easily, you will need a few tissues handy as you read of the experiences with Nicholas' son's handicap and his triump over learning to talk.
I would definitely recommend this book to my friends!
