| Hardcover Description One of the most recognizable women of our time, America knows Jane Fonda as actress, activist, feminist, wife, and workout guru. In her extraordinary memoir, Fonda divides her life intothree acts: her childhood, early films, and first marriage make up act one; her growing career in film, marriage to Ted Turner, and involvement in the Vietnam War belong to act two; and the third act belongs to the future, in which she hopes to "begin living consciously," and inspire others who can learn from her experiences. Fonda reveals intimate details and universal truths that she hopes "can provide a lens through which others can see their lives and how they can live them a little differently." Way too much... I am so glad I got this book from the library and didn't spend good money for it. Having heard that Jane Fonda has become a Christian I decided to read this book (otherwise I wouldn't have). I wanted to see how Christ had influenced her thinking on her life. Quite frankly, her Christian walk wouldn't have filled a complete page. All politics & faith aside, I had to force myself on general principle to finish the book. 200 pages shorter MIGHT have made it a better read. Way too much information - do we really need to know about the 3-somes? I applaude her discussion about the bulimia. Honestly? I found it a boring book and a waste of my time to read.
Talk About The Dead The age-old story of a poor abandoned mother forced to sell her body to feed her starving children--Four Stars!
Well now, with the wisdom of 67 years Jane has decided to talk about what a terrible parent her dead father was. What did he do--make a public account of a bulimic daughter with some kind of drug problem? Of course, as with all the best gossips, Jane has justified her slander as serving a great moral purpose.
I haven't read it..... And I'm not going to. Because there really isn't anything we don't already know about the woman. She was a bad actress (The Deer Hunter kicked her ass at the 1979 Oscars; she thought she'd be a shoo-in with her anti-war movie) and an ineffective activist. Instead of doing something positive she became a lightning rod for all the bad things that the 1960's represented, mainly self-indulgence. It is sickening that such a woman could make a profit after the huge rent in American fabric she helped create....and with this piece of self-indulgence she continues to perpetuate it. |
