The "Grey" side....
After seeing Episode 3 last weekend, I found myself wanting more Star Wars so I bought this book...
I started reading it, and finished it the next day. Very rarely in my busy schedule does this ever happen, so it is a testament to just how good this book is.
From my experience, many Star Wars books are either very deep and have little action, or are very shallow filled with tons of action. Thankfully, this book is right smack in the middle. After reading this book I understand the light and dark sides of the force a little better, and I was also very appreciative of some of the more "philosophical" areas of this text as well. Many conversations and insights in this book really "make you think". "Depth" wise, this book shines.
As for "Action" wise, this book was terrific as well. I've read a few books recently that had so much action, it was simply getting boring to read it. Thankfully, the action sequences in this book are spaced nicely at certain intervals, and each scene is represented in a way that leaves little to the imagination. Very well detailed action scenes, such as detailed step by step lightsaber dueling, details of different types of weapons being used, etc.
Philosophy, humor, action, seeing opinions from both "evil" and "good" sides of view, terrific writing style, and even a twist or two earns this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars.
Having read over 300 fantasy and science fiction novels I sometimes have difficulty finding something worth reading that I haven't already read, this book also did another great thing for me.... it introduced me to an author worth reading again, so I will check into other books written by Sean Stewart.
interesting book
I always read books and wonder first about the quality of the book as a work as opposed to it's connection to any franchise. As a book, this one stands very well on it's own. Yoda is an intriguing character and the other Jedi character in the books were just as fascinating. When will there be an Asajj Ventress novel? She is another great character, comparable to Darth Maul, who by the way had a book of his own. A great read for certain.
Great Star Wars Novel Kicks In Again!
Well, I was bored during weekends, studying and studying, so when I had a free time, I tried to find the book that I did not read already. Then, there came a book, `Star Wars: Yoda-Dark Rendezvous'. The cover of the paperback version gave me the impression of a children's book. Well, that was because it has the illustrations from the actual movie `Star Wars', I guess.
As I began this book, I was quite afraid that this would be just a lame book. Science fiction novels are not exactly my favorites and I was quite unimpressed because of the lame cover. Well, it was much better than what I was expecting, but still, I could not call it `perfect'. Since I had no knowledge about `Star Wars' when I started to read this book, so I had a hard time figuring out who is who and what is the relationship.
For some people's convenience, I hope the author put some kinds of Appendix at the end of the book or the brief explanation on the front of the book. Spending a hard time with a book could mean that this book can be boring to some. This book, still, is a quite a good reading. Vocabularies were somewhat hard, especially under the fact that I am not a native-born American student, but I am from other nationality.
Mostly, after I understood the relationships and all those kind of things, it was quite enjoyable. However, the bad things were that this book lacks suspense, has no tense, and everything is obvious. I hope the author had brought up more suspense to keep people reading his book that time. People's interest late of his book will increase dramatically. This book, I think, is only recommended to Star Wars maniacs!
