A disappointing read
This is a transition book, and, as such, is a bit incoherent as to plot - as ALL transition books tend to be. I tried to give Ms. Hamilton a pass because of this, but the rest of the book is also pretty boring.
I was disappointed as well with the standard subplot #3 of "Cell's going to kill me, and Aunt Andais is getting loonier by the minute". I don't know about anyone else, but both my wife and I were REALLY disappointed that some of the political nonsense wasn't resolved, at least at the Dark Court. The sex and the sexual antics seemed to be the entire reason for the book, and, while more of the Queen's Ravens are becoming less attached to the Queen, having everyone except the mundanes all fall into unrestrained sex at the flick of an eyelash is ALSO getting worn.
The whole book was tired. We were disappointed, as I said. I am willing to allow Ms. Hamilton one last chance to delight me, as she has done in the past. If she can't live up to the promise of the first Princess Meredith book, I am not going to buy any more of them.
No plot at all...it's sad to see how far LKH has fallen...
Very disappointing.I used to like Laurell K. Hamilton but the woman desperately needs an editor. Furthermore, her heroine needs something concrete to do while she waits for the stork to arrive. In this book, as in the last book, Merry gets laid (a lot) and continues to receive mystical messages of favor from the Great Fairy Beyond. Nothing else happens.
Yes, two people get murdered. As a reader, you don't know them and you are not made privy to the investigation, which is resolved rather hastily by a (non-Merry) deus ex machina in the next-to-last chapter. Where the previous reviewer got "twists and turns" I don't know. I didn't see any.
LKH can still write sex scenes, but IMO they are getting awfully tedious, since without a plot or any character development they are indistinguishable from porn.
Looking on the positive side, if you like LKH sex scenes and don't much care if the book they're in makes sense, you should like this one...but I'd check the book out from the library or buy it used. Don't pay hardback prices for this one. :/
A Stroke of Genuis is a Stroke of Midnight
I do not agree with I would say the majority of the reviews I viewed here. I read what was written before I got the book then I let the book sit for a while. It was FAN$%&TASTIC. I do not know where any one gets off saying there is no plot. I found it wound around like any good mystery and the twists and turns were very good. I am very much looking forward to the next one I loved the way she explained why everything was lasting sooo long. And as for any negative reviewers please just stop reading period you have no real ability to see beyond your narrow little field and you waste time and energy you could better use cleaning your house. And for anyone that knows me they are laughing big time cuz that's at the bottom of my list.
