Mediocre
It's a quick read; but the novelization, aside from the opening scenes with Shmi and the Lars family, is just a scene by scene copy of the film--only without the special effects and cool action.
The prose is bland, as vanilla as can be. And after seeing the detail that Matthew Stover put into Revenge Of The Sith, Salvatore's writing just comes off as lazy.
This has paycheck written all over it.
Book makes movie worth watching!!!
I was SO excited when I first heard about Episode 2 and after I saw for the first time, it was all I talked about. But when I really thought about it, there were some moments where the lines were just completely corny and wooden or the line was fine, but the actor saying it, aka Natalie Portman said it without any feeling of the emotion she was trying to portray. The book really clearifies what the characters are thinking and captures their emotions. That is something the movie doesn't do. Again, with the exception of NP, I think it was the lines themselves. Also, the book goes beyond the movie b/c it has a lot of scenes or dialogue which was cut from the movie. It's a good read. Any SW, Anakin and Padme fan should read it, especially if you have seen the movie.
Salvatore does it up right!
This book truly captures the action and excitment of Star Wars, probably even better than the actual movie did. I read through this in about two days, and could barely put it down. The writing style is quick, but still gives you plenty of details that the movie lacked.
Of course Anakin and Obi-Wan get good treatments here, and Dooku was a bit more fleshed out, but the most intriguing part was the Jango Fett/Boba Fett story line. This book showed these two characters in a different light than how they were shown in the movie, and it worked really well.
I also appreciated the extended scene where Anakin rampaged through the Tusken Raiders.
I thought the part with C-3PO exchanging bodies with a Battle Droid was completely unnecessary, but I realize Salvatore had to include it, as it was a part of the movie. One more poor decision by Lucas in my simple opinion.
I highly suggest this book, even if you've seen the movie.
