A pleasant surprise
I tried to read Time Traveler's Wife about 8 months ago, but could not get into it. I felt it moved slowly at the beginning. However, I recently took the book up again in the last month and cannot describe how much I enjoyed it. The book did seem to drag in the first part, but as Henry and Clare's life unfolded I became hooked.
The author shows an attention to detail that I have rarely seen. She also ties up all of the loose ends and at the end of the book the reader is left with a sense that what they have just read was truly amazing.
I would highly recommend the book to all as a good summer read.
This is boring!
I would give this book 0 stars if I could. This is such a boring book. The story didn't really move forward. It was slow and the time travel gimmick was old after page 20. I couldn't finish this book becuase it was tedious to get through and so pretentious! If you want to read good quality literature try Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time or Middlesex. Both are much more compelling with great stories to tell.
Above the Norm
"The Time Traveler's Wife" is an inspirational piece of literature. The author takes on the challenge of writing in an unconventional manner in regards to story development. Beyond the kudos due for taking on the challenge of writing in a grain not normally visited in modern literature, I applaud the author for succeeding in this quest and creating a sweeping epic of with literary gusto.
The author combines elements of a multitude of popular styles typified in "The Secret Life of Bees," "The Notebook," "Middlesex" and "My Fractured Life" and wraps them up in an all encompassing cross genre style that bridges these literary worlds with tremendous panache. The writing is fully unique, but will appeal to connoisseurs of fiction, modern literature, and postmodern literature.
